Dont worry if you haven’t decided on a major: youre in good company. Many new college students are unsure of what to major in when they begin their freshman year. For these students, choosing a major and a career path while still in high school seems impossible. You, like your peers, are probably interested in a wide range of subjects, or could imagine being happy in careers that range from teaching to medicine to creative writing or beyond. Focusing your interests and choosing a major is a big decision, but it doesnt have to be stressful. Were here to help.

Our core curriculum program is designed to give you a taste of courses across the University, and First Year Experience will get you involved in community life and extracurricular activities that can help you discover what youre passionate about doing. Well also pair you with a faculty advisor from day one who will walk alongside you as you process your experiences and figure out what youd like to study.
Do a self-assessment.
Deciding on a major requires some self-reflection and imagination. Here are some suggestions to get you started:
- Make a list of your skills, hobbies, dreams, and things and people that inspire you.
- Think about what motivates you.
- Think about ways youd like to be of service to others.
- Imagine yourself doing the unimaginable: from public speaking to flying to discovering a medical breakthrough. Someone has to do it; why not you?

Taking the Next Step Is Easy.
All students enter North Park as undeclared majorswe dont let you make a formal major declaration until after at least one semesterbut we do suggest that you declare a major by the end of your first year. Dont forget, though: youre not locked in. You can change your mind.
