Middle Eastern Studies Minor

Students interested in exploring the politics, history, and religions of the Middle East can minor in Middle Eastern studies alongside . In particular, , , , and majors will find the variety of topics covered in the minor especially useful in their vocational or graduate school preparation.

As a Middle Eastern studies minor, you’ll study the rich social and political history, current issues, faith, and culture of the Middle East. Through the minor, students majoring in any field of study will acquire valuable dialogue and communications skills.

Why North Park?

Offering an academic Middle Eastern studies minor with diverse approaches to experiential learning and an ecumenical Christian perspective, North Park is the only evangelically-affiliated college or university in the United States to provide such a program.

The minor seeks to foster reconciliation among all of God’s children through experiential and firsthand learning, building relationships with students from the Middle East, and creating opportunities for cross-cultural dialogue on campus and throughout the city of Chicago. Our students are active in the Middle Eastern Student Association which adds additional co- and extracurricular options for the whole campus.

Minor Requirements

To meet the requirements for this minor, students must complete the following:

  • 20 semester hours of coursework in Middle Eastern studies, biblical and theological studies, history, and politics and government
  • A portfolio submitted to the program director that includes a self-assessment, reflection on their educational experiences, and samples of work from their completed courses.

This minor is not a standalone program; students must complete a at North Park in order to graduate from the University.
