Why Major in Media Studies?

In our ever-changing media landscape, media literacy is a necessary requirement for intelligent cultural engagement. In this major, you will learn to interact with media in a critical, thoughtful way both as a professional communicator and a media consumer. You’ll be well prepared for graduate school or for work in audio and video production, journalism, public relations, promotion, event planning, and media management.

Internships

Internships provide students with opportunities to gain writing, broadcasting, or broader communications experience and meet local and international media professionals, including film makers, journalists, and broadcasters. Students have interned at Chicago Public Radio, the Salvation Army, Chicago Sister Cities International, and ABC.

Talent-Based Scholarships

Renewable, talent-based scholarships of up to $1,000 are awarded to promising students with an interest in media studies or journalism. Apply with a sample of your work, an essay describing your non-print media experience, and your educational and career goals.
