Chicago is a perfect place to experience a myriad of musical performances ranging from world-class opera to small performance organizations, says Dr. Kim. When I was a student, I used to drive hundreds of miles with my friends to watch a concert at Lyric Opera or the Ravinia Festival.

Primary Instrument or Voice

A degree in performance will focus on your primary instrument or voice through specialized performance and academic courses. Youll receive the essential training you need from faculty who will mentor you as you reach your own goals. Learn more about the requirements for this concentration, which includes: voice, piano/organ, strings, woodwind, brass, and percussion.

Performance Opportunities

In addition to plentiful solo performance opportunities, you’ll perform throughout the year in one or more of North Park’s signature ensembles. Concerts are held both on and off campus, with annual events that include the Festival of Lesson and Carols, Performance Awards, Chamber Music Showcase Competition, and Opera Workshop/Production.

Certificate in Music for Social Change and Human Values

The music department’s innovative eight-semester-hour undergraduate certificate program is available to all music majors. Learn to teach young students how to play stringed instruments in an orchestra setting, using El Sistema-inspired techniques.
